Summer Red, White & Blue Tablescape
Are you ready to elevate your summer gatherings with a casual red, white & blue tablescape? This ultimate guide will walk you through the steps to create an eye-catching and understated table setting perfect for any summer celebration, including patriotic events like the Fourth of July.

Embrace a Subtle and Elegant Approach
While traditional patriotic celebrations often feature kitschy decorations and flags, change it this year by trying a refined and understated approach. By thoughtfully using classic red, white & blue colors, you can create a tablescape that feels elegant and understated rather than one layered with the expected patriotic decor. Red, white & blue table decor can serve beautifully for patriotic celebrations, as well as for general summer entertaining.

Beautiful Floral Arrangement for a Red, White & Blue Table
Use Wet Floral Foam
Start with a fresh floral centerpiece to anchor your table. Use a white pedestal vase with brick floral foam, such as Oasis, to anchor the arrangement. Soak the foam in water for 30 minutes or until it is saturated. Place the foam in the vase, cutting it with a knife. Wedge smaller pieces in any cracks to create a flat surface for flowers. If you cannot wedge the foam tightly, use floral tape to secure it to the vase.
Use Long-Stemmed Red Roses for a Red, White & Blue Table
Use 10-12 easy-to-find long-stemmed red roses to start the arrangement. Make an angled cut, removing about an inch of the bottom stems to refresh them for water intake. Keeping the stems long will add height and grandeur to the arrangement while keeping it airy.
Add the Roses First
Start by adding the roses to the wet foam in a spaced pattern. Add one rose to the top of the arrangement and then place roses on each side. Turn the arrangement ninety degrees and place roses on the sides without roses. Then fill in any holes with the leftover roses.
Then Add the Delphiniums
Scatter blue and white delphiniums between the roses after trimming their ends on an angle, keeping the stems a little longer than the rose stems.
Add Filler Greenery
Finally, fill in with greenery such as fern fronds (cut from your own plant) and Israeli ruscus stems. Add enough greenery to fill in between the blooms, but not enough to create a dense arrangement. Remember to keep the arrangement light and airy for a breezy summer feel.

Design Your Own Mixed and Matched Red, White & Blue Table
To set a beautiful red, white & blue table, experiment with items you already have at home! By utilizing a mix of red, white & blue items, you can design a festive summer table setting that is both fun and sophisticated, perfect for any gathering. Just exclude items that have patriotic images or icons on them, such as flags, fireworks, stars, and the 4th of July lettering.
Consider using white dinnerware if you don’t have red or blue dinnerware. Add fabric or paper napkins in red or blue to establish the color scheme, or use white napkins tied with red or blue ribbons. Add colored drinking glasses or serve a red beverage in clear glasses to establish the color scheme. Always turn to what you already have to create a unique red, white, & blue table.
Use Alternative Colors
Use a variation of red, white & blue colors with pink raspberry, white, and sky blue to set a patriotic table. This departure from tradition can inject originality into the color scheme while also giving a wink to classic patriotic tables. Click here to see a dark pink, white, and blue summer table.

My Unique Red, White & Blue Table
For this tablescape, I opted for ocean blue dinner plates paired with blue striped napkins and charming strawberry salad plates that included all three colors. I incorporated red lidded mini bakers alongside casual red flatware. The woven water hyacinth placemats gave the table a casual feel that would work for a summer picnic or a dinner party.

Food for a Red, White & Blue Table
Your menu choices can also contribute to the look of your red, white, & blue table. For dessert, I served a Strawberry Glazed Pie, which complemented the strawberry plates and added an additional splash of red to the table. Consider adding blueberries to dishes or desserts, serving fruits such as watermelon, cherries, or raspberries, and baking patriotic-colored bread to serve.
