Red and Pink Valentine’s Day Table

This red and pink Valentine’s Day table is set with trim-embellished pink placemats that you can easily make yourself. The centerpiece is one vase filled with blush, pink, and red roses. The blush-colored napkins are tied with a red velvet ribbon and decorated with a red heart.

Ideas for a Red and Pink Valentine’s Day Table

This vibrant Valentine’s Day table is similar to my red and white Valentine’s Day table. However, this table has more color with red goblets and eye-catching placemats. It definitely has a festive feel! Here are several ideas to help you set your own Valentine’s Day table.

Red and Pink Candles for Valentine’s Day Table

I like to place candles on a table to fill up empty spaces. Tall candle holders with taper candles can give your table height when needed, and small cup holders with votive candles can light up the centerpiece. Each candle type has its advantages, but votive cup-type holders will collect the melted wax. Tapers can drip wax, so consider how to catch the wax if you don’t want it to melt on your tablecloth and candleholders. I used tapers on this table and tried different colors to coordinate with the blush, pink, and red flowers. Which color do you like best?

Red-Trimmed Placemats for Red and Pink Valentine’s Day Table

The light pink Solino Home placemats are placed on a white and pink tablecloth. I added red zigzag or rickrack trim to the placemats by tacking it with a needle and thread. It was so easy to work with! Later, I can easily remove it to use the placemats for a different look.

Use a Red Bow to Tie Around the Napkins

I used red velvet ribbon to tie around the napkins and then used red thread to attach a heart ornament. The simple red ribbon accents the red trim without competing with it. When trying to decide what kind of napkin ring to use, consider if you want to accent something on the table or overpower it. Originally, I had planned to use floral napkin rings with pink flowers and seed stems, and red and pink ribbons. However, since the red trim was so dominant, the complicated floral napkin rings weren’t the right look. Instead, a simple red ribbon and red ornament suited the placemats best.

Roses for the Red and Pink Valentine’s Day Table

I used several roses in the red and pink arrangement. Roses are the quintessential flower for Valentine’s Day and are easy to find if you aren’t using a florist to make your table arrangements. If you change the water daily and keep all the foliage out of the water, they can last about a week. Alternatively, you can create an arrangement out of faux roses because many high-quality flowers are hard to distinguish from real ones–and they can be used again and again. Finally, my favorite flower, the ranunculus, is beautiful in Valentine’s Day arrangements but harder to find. Sometimes you can find them online at flower farms that ship. If you are not a do-it-yourself flower arranger, use your local florist to create an arrangement for your table.

Add Filler Items to the Center of the Table

It is fun to use small containers as part of the table centerpiece. Add treats to them, such as heart jelly beans or individually-wrapped chocolates. Guests get to help themselves to the treats–before or after the meal! The containers add color, and the candies add texture to the table. They can also help take up some of the empty table space when you need it. I also added red and white leftover Christmas paper mache balls to the center of this table. They add visual interest and keep the table from becoming saturated with hearts. Additionally, consider adding scattered flower petals and a bottle of bubbly!

How to Trim Rickrack Placemats

Glassware for Red and Pink Valentine’s Day Table

I used red stemware for this table. However, remember that red glasses with red-trimmed placemats, red napkin ties, and red flowers make a vibrant, busy table. If you want a more subtle red, opt for clear glassware. In this case, I wanted to create a different look from last year’s red and white Valentine’s Day table so I gave this table more red to energize it!

Add a Valentine’s Day Pillow to the End Chairs

It can be fun to add festive pillows to a couple or all of the dining chairs for an informal gathering of friends. You can also decorate the back of the chairs with small heart-shaped wreaths or color-coordinated fabric sashes tied into bows. Or, if you really want to take your table over the top, try adding red cupid wings to the back of the chairs.
