This sweet plum salsa goes well with plum chicken or other chicken dishes. It is best eaten within a day. Let it sit a little while after making it so the flavors meld.
Peeling Not Necessary for Plum Salsa
There are many types of plums you can use for this salsa. Choose your favorite! I usually use black or red plums with good results. Wash the plums before cutting, and don’t worry about peeling them because the peel gives extra color to this salsa.
How to Cut a Plum
- Insert a large knife into the indent at the top of the plum.
- Cut down to the seed.
- Rotate the plum, letting the knife cut around the seed inside the plum.
- Once cut, twist the two halves in opposite directions until they pull apart.
- Remove the plum seed with a spoon or squeeze the sides of the plum to help loosen it and then remove it.
How to Peel a Plum
If you prefer not to eat the skin of a plum, you can easily remove it by cutting an X into the skin on the bottom. Then submerge the plum into boiling water for about 15-20 seconds. Remove it and plunge it into ice-cold water to stop it from cooking. Pull off the skin, starting at the cut X on the bottom of the plum. If the peel does not come off readily, repeat by dipping it in boiling water again.
Use Fresh Produce for Plum Salsa
Use the freshest ingredients you can find for the best taste. You can use cilantro in this recipe or leave it out and garnish with green onions. The recipe lists quantities; however, you can add more or less to suit your taste.
Finely Chop Everything
This recipe is best if you cut everything about the same size. This helps ensure that you get a little of everything in each bite!
