Make with Common Pantry Ingredients
M&M Bunny Cookies use simple ingredients you likely already have in your pantry. The pastel-colored chocolate M&Ms add color and whimsy to these cookies, making them an exciting treat, especially for kids.
FLOUR: Use all-purpose flour in this recipe to provide structure to the cookies.
BAKING POWDER: A leavening agent that helps baked goods rise and have a light texture. It works alongside baking soda to create air pockets in the dough, resulting in soft and chewy cookies rather than crisp ones.
BAKING SODA: Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, is another leavening agent in this recipe that reacts with brown sugar (an acidic ingredient) to produce carbon dioxide gas, which helps the cookies expand and rise as they bake.
SALT: Enhances the flavors of ingredients and balances the sweetness of the sugars, intensifying the overall taste of the cookie. Additionally, it helps strengthen the dough by tightening gluten strands, contributing to a better texture.
BUTTER: A key ingredient that adds richness and flavor to these cookies. Softened butter creates a creamy texture that allows easy mixing and contributes to the cookies’ overall taste.
SUGAR: Sugar is essential for sweetness, but it also affects the texture and color of cookies. This recipe uses both granulated and brown sugar. Granulated sugar helps the cookies spread and crisp at the edges, while brown sugar adds moisture and a hint of caramel flavor for a chewy center. Together, they create the perfect balance of sweetness.
EGG: Serves as a binder to help hold all the ingredients together. It also adds moisture and contributes to the structure of the cookies.
VANILLA: Vanilla extract is a flavor enhancer that adds an aromatic note to complement the sweetness of the cookies and ties all the flavors together.
M&Ms: Milk Chocolate Pastel M&Ms are the colorful stars of this cookie recipe, adding a burst of chocolate flavor and creative decoration in the shape of adorable bunny heads.

M&M Bunny Cookies
Equipment
- baking sheets
- parchment paper
- cooking rack
- 1 1/2-inch cookie scoop
Ingredients
- 1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¾ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg, room temperature and lightly beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk chocolate pastel M&Ms
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Prepared a cookie sheet by placing a sheet of parchment paper on it.
- Whisk dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugars until smooth and creamy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
- Add the flour mixture a little at a time and beat until just combined.
- Scoop the cookie dough with the cookie scooper (about 2-3 tablespoons) and place it on a parchment-lined cookie sheet, leaving two to three inches between cookies for spreading. Place only about six cookies on the baking sheet so you will have time to decorate them with bunny ears before they cool after baking.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges.
- Remove from the oven and immediately press the M&Ms into the cookies to form a bunny head. It will take nine M&Ms for each cookie. Press a flat M&M into the cookie with the M side facing down. Then, turn an M&M on its side and press it into the cookie above the flat M&M to form the first bunny ear. Add another one next to it to create the second ear. You can place the ears straight or cock one to the side to make a floppy ear. Move the cookies to a cooling rack.
- If the dough gets too hot, it can spread too much during baking to insert M&Ms. To prevent it from overheating, place the mixing bowl (between batches of cookies) in the refrigerator.
