See how easy it is to reuse Mylar balloons as an eco-friendly way to make the most of your party decorations while minimizing waste. By following a few simple steps, you can deflate these durable balloons and have them ready for refilling for your next celebration.
Reuse Mylar Balloons: A Simple Guide
Mylar balloons are durable and typically take a long time to deflate naturally. It can feel wasteful to discard them after only a brief use at a party. However, did you know that you can actually reuse Mylar party balloons? There’s a simple trick for deflating and reusing these balloons that I’ll share with you below.

Reuse Mylar Balloons: Locate the Valve
First, find the hole where the helium was originally inserted, which is usually located at a tag on the balloon. This step is crucial for the deflation process.

Insert the Straw
Next, insert a straw into the hole with the valve. Push the straw into the balloon until it reaches the sealed valve inside. You may need to insert most of the straw’s length to find the valve. You will feel some resistance when the straw hits the valve, but keep inserting until you open it.

Release the Helium
Now, press on the balloon to force the helium out through the straw.

If you’re working with large balloons that come in two halves, make sure to release the helium from one side first, then switch to the other and press to release it.

Store for Later Use
Once you’ve released all the helium, carefully remove the straw and store the balloon in a safe place. When you’re ready to use it again, simply have it refilled with helium. By following these steps, you can enjoy your Mylar balloons multiple times and reduce waste.
