Sweet and Refreshing Watermelon Shake

Try this sweet and refreshing watermelon shake this summer! It is easy to make with frozen watermelon, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and ice cream, and tastes delicious! The recipe includes directions for making a watermelon shake cocktail too.

An Unexpected Combination

Two things that are cooling on a hot summer day: cold watermelon and a milkshake. But put them together in one drink? Yes, it’s a sweet combination. This recipe has maple syrup and vanilla extract, which gives it a more complex flavor. On a hot day, try this shake because you can’t go wrong with a cool melon drink!

Freeze the Fruit for Watermelon Shake

This shake, made with frozen watermelon, is easiest to make if you cut the watermelon into small chunks before freezing because larger pieces are harder to blend. This shake is also a great way to use up excess fruit you might have from a large watermelon. Just cut it into small chunks and freeze it until ready to make shakes.

Make a Watermelon Shake Cocktail

Turn your watermelon shake into a cocktail! Add melon-flavored vodka or rum (or nonflavored) to the blender with all the other ingredients and blend. Add 2 ounces of alcohol–or more or less, depending on your preference–to create a creamy cocktail. Serve with a whimsical drink umbrella to make this pretty pink shake a fun treat.

Add Garnish

Place fresh (not frozen) melon chunks or balls onto drink skewers to serve with this shake. Use a skewer wider than the glass so you can set it across the top of the glass. Otherwise, the weight of the melon can sink the fruit in the shake. Enjoy!
