2jalapeños(washed, cut lengthwise with stem, membranes & seeds removed)
Jalapeño Limeade
1 ½cupsfresh lime juice
2cupssimple jalapeño syrup
6 ¼cupswater(1 1/2 liters or 50 ounces)
Instructions
Simple Jalapeño Syrup
Add the water, sugar, and jalapeños to a pan and heat over medium until the sugar dissolves and the mixture simmers, about 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat and let steep for 30 minutes. Then remove the jalapeño and discard.
Jalapeño Limeade
In a large pitcher, add the jalapeño-sugar mixture and lime juice, stirring well.
Add the water and stir. Cover and refrigerate for a couple of hours before serving. Limeade will sweeten upon sitting. Stir before serving.
Notes
Reducing Sweetness
If too sweet, add a little more water.
Substitutions
To make a spicier version, do not remove the jalapeno membranes and seeds. Taste-test the syrup before the 30-minute steeping time is finished, in case it's getting spicier than you would like.Add sparkling mineral water in place of the plain water for a sparkling jalapeño limeade.
