2Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled, and sliced(cut each apple into at least 15 slices for 30 slices)
1cupbrown sugar, packed
1 ½ teaspoonscinnamon
a pinch of salt
¾cupbutter, melted
1teaspoonvanilla extract
8ounceslemon-lime soda
cooking spray
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray the baking pan with cooking spray.
Cut the pie crust into 5 pie-shaped slices. Place 3 apple slices on each cut crust. Fold the crust over the apple slices, then seal the edges by pressing the dough together. Use a little water to wet the crust if necessary to seal the seams. Place the dumplings in the casserole dish. Repeat until all 10 dumplings are made.
Stir together the sugar, cinnamon, salt, melted butter, and vanilla flavoring until well mixed. Pour over the dumplings.
Pour the soda around the edges of the pan, being careful not to pour any directly onto the dumplings.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until brown. If the dumplings start to over-brown before the cooking time is finished, place a sheet of aluminum foil over the baking dish for the remaining baking time.
